“The Lord Lyon and Scottish Freemasonry”

Wednesday 27th September 2023, 7.00 pm at the Union Masonic Hall, Portland Square, Carlisle CA1 1PV, a talk was delivered by:

Most Excellent Companion Dr. Joseph John Morrow, CVO, CBE, KC, LLD, KStJ, FRSE, The Rt. Honourable the Lord Lyon, King of Arms

Brethren and Companions from Scottish and English Provinces met together at Carlisle Masonic Hall to hear the Lord Lyon explain the history of his role and its key functions. A fascinating talk from Joe lasting almost an hour to a room held in rapture at the diversity and complexity of his role as Lord Lyon, King of Arms, as well as its rich heritage, its links to historical laws and fines and its modern outlook. He included entertaining anecdotes and illustrations of symbols and the importance of brand recognition, demonstrating the relevance and importance of the role to protect and serve its people and its businesses for the last 715 years

Following the talk, MAMR President Peter Robinson was delighted to present the Lord Lyon with a bottle of 20 yr old Tawny Port in order to keep his voice in tip top condition, and having previously discovered that Excellent Companion Joe was very fond of apple pie and custard, also presented him with a framed picture of a decent slice, and carrying the logo of the MAMR to sit on his shelf and raise a smile whenever required

A sumptuous buffet was enjoyed by the attendees, and after many questions and plenty of smiles and laughter, we all headed home
